First Sunday Family Fun Day

First Sunday of Every Month | noon-4 p.m. | Free | 3-12 years old

 

The Kansas City Museum’s First Sunday Family Fun Day is a fantastic way to share a great family moment and have a little fun too! The event, held on the First Sunday of every month, allows children to have fun while also having an exceptional learning experience. There are historic games and scavenger hunts held on the grounds to play. For the artsy person in your family, there is an arts and crafts area. There’s historical information and exterior panels surrounding the Museum for the history aficionados and if you are lucky enough, you might get a free old-fashioned treat.

Looking for something to do as a family before the big game? Come by Kansas City Museum Sunday, February 5 and learn about Kansas City’s earliest settlers at First Sunday Family Fun Day. Your family will explore Kansas City’s early trading history by learning to trade for supplies at our trading post; make your own bead and seed jewelry; listen to Native American songs in our StoryTarium and so much more!

  • Learn interesting facts about the Osage Indians by playing a matching game.

Learn about the early settlement of the Town of Kansas, which would later become Kansas City at Kansas City Museum’s March First Sunday Family Fun Day, Sunday, March 4 from noon-4 p.m. Your family will learn about the Town of Kansas’ first newspaper, the Kansas City Ledger through experimenting with printmaking; explore how people communicated using Morse code and so much more!

  • Make your own old-fashioned yard doll

  • The Kansas City Ledger was the Town of Kansas' first newspaper in 1851. Come experiment with different kinds of printmaking

  • The first telegraph service came to the Town of Kansas in 1851. Learn about the invention of the telegraph and send messages with Morse code

  • Town of Kansas was the starting point of three major trails headed west. What exactly could those settlers bring in their wagons? Look at maps of the trails and try and decide what the most important things are to bring on the trail

  • Listen to stories about what life was like in the Town of Kansas in the 1850s
