Explore the history of Kansas City’s Historic Garment District with guides Harvey Fried and Ann Brownfield, co-founders of the Kansas City Garment District Museum. You’ll travel back to the 1920s where manufacturers made coats, suits, dresses, hats and children’s wear on the upper floors of the wholesale dry goods buildings. From the 1920s through the 1940s, the garment industry was the second largest employer in Kansas City, employing 4,000 people, and boasted the second largest garment district, behind only New York City. You’ll pass several former manufacturing buildings, including the homes of Mayfair Playwear, Gay Gibson Junior Dresses and many more. In 1990 the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department dedicated a fountain and 22 foot “Needle” statue as a tribute to the garment industry.

Please Note: Due to technical difficulties, we will only be able to take ticket purchases at the door. We apologize for the inconvenience. Pre-register for the event by calling the Museum at 816-513-0721 or by emailing Anna Marie Tutera at anna.tutera@kcmo.org

Rain Out Notice: The Museum will still be presenting its tour today at 3 p.m. Please bring your raincoats and umbrellas. In the event we receive more rain than expected, the Museum will reschedule the tour to a later date.
